TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...DON JOHNSON

American actor Donnie Wayne Johnson was born on 15th December 1949 in Flat Creek, Missouri, is married and has 5 children.  He is also a producer and singer.

At high school, Don was part of the school’s theatre programme and in later years he was one of the main protagonists in the musical ‘West Side Story’.  After graduation he applied to attend university but left after the first year and moved to another state and frequented the American Conservatory Theatre.

In 1969, Don got his first leading role on stage and until the mid 70s continued with his acting career in movies, on TV as well as in theatrical productions, but did not receive the expected success.

Things changed for the better in the mid-80s when Don starred in the famous crime drama series ‘Miami Vice’ which ran from 1984 to 1990, interpreting the character of ‘Sonny Crockett’ and made Don an international star. 

During the same period of filming this series, Don acted in the TV miniseries ‘The Long Hot Summer’ as well as released his first studio album called ‘Heartbeat’.  Six years after ‘Miami Vice’ ended, Johnson starred in another police drama series called ‘Nash Bridges’ for 5 years.  He also released a second album.

In the last 2 decades, Johnson starred in 20 films and another 3 are in the pipeline.  He also appeared in around 18 TV productions.  As regards music, he had 3 albums and 6 singles.  He is also passionate about power boat racing and won a World Championship Cup in 1988.

During his career, Don received a Saturn and a Golden Globe Award for his acting roles.
