American singer-songwriter Ann Dustin Wilson was born 74 years ago in San Diego, California, is married and has 2 adopted children. She is best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band ‘Heart’.
As a kid, Ann, together with her sister Nancy, sought comfort in music to feel ‘at home’, in view that they frequently travelled from country to country in view of their father’s occupation in the US Marine Corps. Eventually, the family settled for good back in the US and Ann continued her studies and graduated.
At the beginning of the 70s, Ann became a member of a band named ‘White Heart’ which changed its name twice more, first to ‘Hocus Pocus’ and finally to ‘Heart’. Some time later, her sister also joined the band and they decided to move to Canada. In 1975, their debut album was recorded and released the following year. It featured the US Top 10 hit ‘Magic Man’ as well as the track ‘Crazy for You’ which placed 35th – both songs were written by the sisters. Three more albums were released by the end of the 70s.
During the 80s, ‘Heart’ released 5 albums and had 2 number one US hits: ‘These Dreams’ in 1986 and ‘Alone’ the year after. In the mid-90s, Ann and Nancy created a recording studio as well as a side band called ‘The Lovemongers’ and some time later released an EP. Their debut album came out in 1997 and 10 years later, in 2007, Ann released her debut solo album named ‘Hope & Glory’.
In the last 2 decades, ‘Heart’ had 4 studio, 8 compilation and 6 live albums and 11 singles. During these years, Ann collaborated with other artists and featured in their songs/albums. She has also performed in various important events as well as released more solo albums and singles. In 2013, Ann, together with the other ‘Heart’ members, was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is estimated that the group had global sales of over 35 million copies.
