American actor and film director Sean Justin Penn was born 63 years ago in Santa Monica, California, is divorced and has 2 children.

After finishing his studies, Sean started doing short movies with friends, actors and brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez who used to live near his house.

In 1974, Penn appeared for the first time on the small screen as an extra in the popular TV series ‘Little House on the Prairie’.  Seven years later, in 1981, his film career took off and during that decade he starred in several movies like ‘Taps’, ‘Fast Time at Ridgemont High’, ‘Bad Boys’, ‘The Falcon and the Snowman’ and ‘At Close Range’.

After a 9-year hiatus from acting, he returned to the big screen and interpreted the role of a racist murderer in the 1995 crime-drama film ‘Dead Man Walking’ alongside Susan Sarandon.  In the last 3 decades, he starred in about 40 films of different genres like ‘Mystic River’, ’21 Grams’ and ‘Milk’, as well as various TV productions including series, sitcoms, etc.

Apart from acting, Sean has also written, produced and directed numerous movies and music videos plus publishing a novel.  Penn is also an avid philanthropist – in fact he has founded some charitable institutions and has personally visited different countries who were struck by natural disasters, suffered wars etc and carried out humanitarian work where needed.

During his career so far, Sean received 2 Academy Awards, a Best Actor Award and 2 Volpi Cups for Best Actor.
