TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY...RICCARDO FOGLI

Italian singer Riccardo Fogli was born in Pontedera on 21st October 1947, is married and has 2 children.

Riccardo joined the band I Pooh in 1966 as a bassist.  Later he replaced the band’s lead singer, and their first album was released.  Afterwards, the singles ‘Piccola Katy’ and ‘In Silenzio’ were recorded and were very successful.  

Foglio left the band in 1973 to pursue a solo career.  During the rest of the 70s, he released several singles which led him to stardom, namely ‘Mondo’, ‘Stella’, ‘Paola’ and ‘Che ne Sai’.  He also participated in the San Remo Festival with ‘Complici’.

Success continued during the following decade and Riccardo became an established Italian music artist.  A string of hits followed: ‘TiAmo Pero`, ‘Scene da un Amore’ and ‘Malinconia’.  In 1982, he took part for the second time in the San Remo Festival and won with the hit ‘Storie di tutti i Giorni’ and the year after, represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Per Lucia’, placing 11th.

To date, Riccardo had 32 albums and numerous singles as a solo artist.  He appeared in a few music variety shows and other TV productions and in 2015, reunited with his ex-group members of ‘I Pooh’ on their tour, marking the band’s 50th anniversary of activity.
