TODAY'S CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY... DRUPI

Italian rock singer and songwriter Drupi was born as Giampiero Anelli 76 years ago in Pavia and is married.  His stage name ‘Drupi’ was aspired from the cartoon character dog ‘Droopy’.

Drupi used to work as a plumber and in the late 60s his singing career took off when he become the lead singer of a group named ‘Le Calamite’, with whom a 45 rpm was released.

In 1973, he participated in the San Remo Music Festival with the track ‘Vado Via’ which ended up in last place.  Albeit, it was successful internationally in the following year and was the start of his solo career.  Later that year, he became famous when the song ‘Piccola e Fragile’ topped the charts in his native country.

Success continued for Drupi in the following months when he was the winner of the Festivalbar with the song ‘Due’.  He participated a few more times in the yearly San Remo Music Festival, and in 1982 managed to arrive to third place with the track ‘Soli’.:

During his career, Drupi released 26 singles, some of which were recorded in other languages including English and Czech, as well as 19 studio albums.
