Australian singer-songwriter and actress Kylie Ann Minogue was born 56 years ago in Melbourne and is single. She is nicknamed as the ‘Princess of Pop’.
As a child, she learnt to sing and dance together with her sister Dannii. Then, in 1979, she was given a small role in the soap opera ‘The Sullivans’ and the following year she starred in ‘Skyways’. Five years later, Kylie casted in ‘The Henderson Kids’, but her character was ‘cancelled’ as she frequently forgot her lines and was forced to drop out.
After this unpleasant ordeal, Kylie started to seriously consider taking a music career. Since she was a teenager, she was inspired by several famous artists like the Beatles, Jackson 5, Prince, ABBA, Donna Summer, amongst others. In fact, in 1985, she sang for the first time in a TV show.
In 1986, however, she was chosen to join the cast of the famous 80’s Australian soap opera ‘Neighbours’ alongside another popular singer Jason Donovan, and with whom she had a 3-year relationship.
‘Neighbours’ was a big help for Kylie and gave her that much needed push to enter in the music world. In fact, while she was still filming the soap’s episodes, her first album ‘Kylie’ was released in 1988, which featured the hit ‘The Locomotion’. Since then, Kylie had a string of big hits like ‘I Should be so Lucky’, ‘Got to be Certain’, ‘Tears on my Pillow’, ‘Hand on your Heart’ and ‘Can’t get you out of my Head’, to name a few.
In 2005, Kylie was given the devastating news that she had breast cancer. She underwent immediate surgery, followed by chemotherapy. Thankfully, all went well and she could resume with her career.
Throughout her +30-year career span, Kylie released 51 albums, spread among live, compilation, studio, remix, plus 2 Box Sets and 9 Extended Plays. She released 120 singles, performed in 19 concert tours worldwide and starred in 21 movies and appeared in 29 TV series. Kylie is also an active businesswoman and over the years has released clothing lines, wines, books, furniture and perfumes.
Kylie also received an outstanding number of awards totalling 228, which include MTV Video Music, MTV Europe music, a Grammy and Brit amongst many, many others. In addition, she also received state and academic honours and other tributes from different countries.
With global sales of over 80 million records, Minogue is the most successful Australian female singer of all time.
