CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY TODAY... COREY HART

Canadian singer-songwriter and musician Corey Mitchell Hart was born 62 years ago in Montreal, Quebec, is married and has 4 children.

When he was 11 years old, Corey performed for the first time when he sang a track named ‘Ben’ for Tom Jones whilst in Miami and consequently recorded a few songs with Paul Anka.  At the age of 18, Hart made his first public performance in Tokyo when he represented his country in the World Popular Song Festival, which was unofficially called ‘The Oriental Eurovision’.

Returning to Canada, Corey contacted Billy Joel who was touring the country at the time, and together with his backup band managed to record some demos.  Afterwards, he collaborated with other Canadian musicians and recorded more material.

In 1982, Hart recorded his debut album named ‘First Offense’ which was released the following year.  It featured the US top 10 hit ‘Sunglasses at Night,’ followed by the Top 20 single’ It Ain’t Enough’.  Following his album’s success, Corey embarked on an extensive tour in the next 2 years and in mid 1985, his second album came out.  It included the number one Canadian hit single ‘Never Surrender’, as well as other tracks which featured in the Top 40 chart.

Corey also toured Japan and North America and subsequently released his third album, which, like the previous two, was very successful and featured the hit single ‘I am by your Side’ and the cover version of Elvis Presley’s track ‘Can’t help falling in Love’.  Once again, he embarked on a world tour and many of his concerts were sold out.

In the last 3 decades, Hart had 7 studio, 8 compilation and 1 video albums, and over 30 singles, selling more than 16 million records globally.  He was inducted in both the Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement in music.  Moreover, Corey received a Diamond Award, a Golden Gate Award and several Juno awards, amongst other accolades and honours.
